Silver Mountain climbs to 10,522 feet and is mostly fractured granite in composition. Until the late 1800's, it was know as Dike Mountain because of the multiple spokes of dike structures that lead from it. In the 1870's, miners found small deposits of gold and silver on it and named it Silver Mountain. Now it can be named for all of the silver spruce that covers its slopes. From the summit of Silver Mountain, the eastern slope gently descends through groves of spruce and stands of pine and gambol oak to the lush grasslands at its base. The southern exposure, beautifully wooded areas and stunning views of the Spanish Peaks, makes this a perfect building site for your dream home. It is also home to abundant wildlife and seems to be a favorite place for birds of prey to soar and view the expansive grasslands.
