At the base of the canyon, a diversion structure has been built to efficiently direct water from Abetya Creek through a pipeline into the main ranch reservoir. This reservoir was built in the early 1900's by hauling clay soils into the ranch by wagon to line the bottom. Today it stores 350 acre feet of water for irrigation purposes. The reservoir is a favorite fishing lake and is a magnet for herds of elk, mule deer and antelope. Eagles fish there while the reservoir gives life force to the rest of the ranch by way of pipelines that take the water to the hayfields and other places. This method minimizes evaporative loss and fosters water management. The reservoir provides a beautiful focal point across the broad view shed from the best building sites.
